About Mother Goose
Mother Goose is a composite of all the anonymous women who have sung for young children down through the ages. Mothers, daughters, aunties, grandmothers, sisters, nursemaids, and nannies...have always passed songs along to children and each other in the folk tradition. Some would pin her name to one historical figure or another, but a "real" Mother Goose remains elusive. Some have claimed her words to be political satire but, in fact, the satirists commandeered her little rhymes and cautionary tales for their own purposes!
Children's songs and lullabies are vital to human development. Through simple songs and rhymes, little ones learn to speak and read, to think and make connections. The nature of music brings order to their little lives and helps them develop trust and compassion for others. Songs carry culture and understanding of what it is to be human.

Though women of long ago never knew the science behind the songs, they instinctively delivered to children this essential human expression. Music is powerful and versatile. It celebrates every human emotion. It increases well being in our bodies, souls and minds. It develops the individual, which in turn develops the whole society. |

Scientists of the 21st Century are discovering the true nature of music and its amazing effects on brain development. They are discovering that a good song, sung well, is a high quality, educational toy! |
If Mother Goose had her way, all learning would be based on music. Language, history, mathematics, geography-- all the arts and sciences could be taught through a music curriculum. What a wonderful, musical world it would be! And quite friendly, too! |
